Buddy show returns to the theatre where it all started 30 years earlier

After 4450 performances on tour in the UK & Ireland, and 5822 performances in the West End, Buddy - The Buddy Holly Story embarks on its 30th Anniversary Tour with a gala performace at the Theatre Royal Plymouth where it all began.


We are proud that Buddy will be opening its 30th Anniversary Tour back here at the Theatre Royal Plymouth. Thirty years is an incredible achievement - Adrian Vinken OBE, Chief Exec Theatre Royal


Loved by critics and audiences alike, Buddy tells the enduring tale of the musical

icon’s meteoric rise to fame and his final legendary performance at the Surf Ballroom

in Clear Lake, Iowa, before his tragic and untimely death at the age of 22. In 18 short

months the Texas-born boy revolutionized the face of contemporary music

influencing everyone from The Beatles to Bruce Springsteen. Audiences will be

treated to 20 of Buddy Holly’s greatest hits, including timeless classics That’ll Be The

Day, Peggy Sue, Oh Boy and Rave On.

Since its inception, Buddy has inspired a generation of multi-million selling juke-box

musicals including Mamma Mia and We Will Rock You, but remains the true original

and a musical phenomenon. Seen by over 22 million music fans since it opened in

London’s West End in 1989, Buddy speaks an international language and continues

to have audiences from aged 8 to 80 years old rockin’ in the aisles across the globe!



Thames Audio are pround be be Sound & Communications supplier for the tour. Sound Designer Pete Cox specified a Funktion One Res 2 speaker system. A Yamaha QL5 console and dual QLab replay system were utilised FOH. A DANTE network was utilized for all stage inputs and returns enabling the on-stage sound team to monitor any inputs through a bespoke digital monitoring system.

Update

The Buddy Holly tour performed across the UK until March 2020 when it was sadly brought to an early end due to the pandemic.
